If you plan on going on a road trip this summer, you want to make sure that you pack an emergency kit in case things get a little crazy when you are on your road trip. Here are four things that you want to make sure are included in your summer road trip emergency kit.

#1 Water

One of the most important things that you are going to want to include in your emergency kit is a couple of gallons of water. Water can be useful for a variety of different reasons when dealing with a roadside emergency. Water can be used to cool down an overheating engine or put out an engine fire. If you are stuck on the side of the road for a couple of hours waiting for assistance, having water with you will also help keep you hydrated. You don't want to get dehydrated sitting on the side of a road waiting for assistance.

#2 Snacks

You are also going to want to make sure that you have some snacks in your emergency tool kit. You want to pack snacks in your emergency kit that will not go bad quickly but are also filling, such as nuts, dried fruit, crackers and granola bars. That way, if you are ever stuck on the side of the road for an extended period of time, you'll have food to eat. This is especially important if you are traveling with young kids or anyone with a medical condition.

#3 Flares & Warning Triangles

If you break down on the side of the road, you want to be able to warn other drivers that your vehicle is not operational. You also want to make it easy for the tow truck driver to find you. The best way to do that is by carrying some roadside flares in your vehicle as well as a few warning triangles that you can set up around the area. Don't depend on your hazards working in an emergency; having a backup option that will allow your vehicle to stand out is important.

#4 Tools For Changing A Tire

You should also have the tools necessary to change out and put on your spare tire if necessary. You will need a jack and a wrench, some construction gloves, as well as a spare tire. If you are not experienced with changing out a spare tire, you may also want to print out some directions so you can refer to them while changing your tire.
